Traditional lineups are suboptimal. While traditional lineups can rule in the guilty, they cannot rule out the innocent. Fortunately, the rule out procedure is the feasible and superior procedure.
Not Just Faces: Forensic Object Identification Procedures
Although police departments regularly administer identification procedures for forensic objects (such as vehicles and weapons), these procedures remain largely under-researched. My work aims to remedy the gap in this literature.
Eyewitness researchers have long recommended that police video record lineup procedures. Beyond providing a faithful record of the lineup procedure, there are numerous witness behaviors captured on video, that can assist in postdicting accuracy.
